Where You Wen Grad? Owning Land and Doing Business in Hawai'i

Course Type: Elective
Credits: 3

Instructor: Dawn N. Chang, Esq.
The course will provide a local perspective into the unique aspects of land ownership in Hawai'i and doing business in Hawai'i. The course will provide an overview of key historic events from Pre-Western contact (per-1778) to present day events including some of the contentious issues surrounding Mauna Kea. Many of these events have played a role in shaping some of our cultural, legal, and societal views in relationship to land ownership and doing business in Hawai'i. Several of Hawai'i's land laws are unique only to Hawai'i. The course also covers what's unique about doing business in Hawai'i, including comparing mainland business style vs. local style.
